Original Final Fantasy character joins fighting game in April 21 update
Square Enix began streaming a battle video on Wednesday introducing the original Final Fantasy's Garland to its Dissidia Final Fantasy arcade game. The game already launched in Japanese arcades on November 26, and Garland will be added in update on April 21.
Square Enix streamed a preview video for the game's soundtrack last week. The soundtrack will ship in Japan on April 27.
The arcade game features a 3 vs. 3 battle system. The game also includes a summons gauge that players can use to summon Ifrit and other popular Final Fantasy summons when the gauge is full. Takeharu Ishimoto and his band The Death March performed a new song for the game.
KOEI Tecmo Games' Team Ninja (Dead or Alive series) developed the game, which uses technology from a PlayStation 4 core system instead of a dedicated arcade circuit board.
Square Enix released Dissidia Final Fantasy, a PlayStation Portable fighting game featuring Final Fantasy heroes and villains, in 2008 in Japan, and in 2009 in other parts of the world. The company then released the Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy sequel in 2011 for the PSP with new characters, stages, and story.
