Doraemon, Chihayafuru films also hold positions at #2, #4
Ansatsu Kyōshitsu: Sotsugyō-hen (Assassination Classroom: Graduation), the second live-action film based on Yusei Matsui's Assassination Classroom manga, retained its #1 rank in the Japanese box office in its third weekend on 318 screens. Over the weekend of April 9-10, the film sold 167,429 tickets for a total of 201,085,000 yen (about US$1.86 million). The film will soon have sold more than 2.6 million tickets, and is projected to surpass the first film's box office takings of 2.77 billion yen (about US$25.6 million), and go on to earn more than 2.9 billion yen (about US$26.9 million).
Eiga Doraemon Shin Nobita no Nihon Tanjō(Doraemon the Movie: Nobita and the Birth of Japan 2016), the 36th anime film in the Doraemon franchise, retained its #2 rank in its sixth weekend on 363 screens. The film sold 96,707 tickets and earned 115,511,200 yen (about US$1.1 million) over the weekend.
Chihayafuru: Kami no Ku, the first of two planned live-action films of Yuki Suetsugu's Chihayafuru manga, remained at #4 fourth weekend on 297 screens. The film's cumulative gross has surpassed 1 billion yen (about US$9.02 million).
The live-action film of Kei Sanbe's Boku dake ga Inai Machi (ERASED or The Town Where Only I Am Missing) manga dropped from #7 to back to #5 in its fourth weekend on 328 screens.
Toei's Kamen Rider 1-Gō (Kamen Rider #1) film dropped from #6 to #7 in its third weekend on 306 screens.
The Eiga Precure All Stars: Minna de Utau Kiseki no Mahō! (Precure All Stars The Movie: Everyone Sing♪ Miraculous Magic!) anime film fell from #8 to #10 in its fourth weekend on 213 screens.
