Shōnen Ashibe Comedy Manga About Baby Seal & Boy Gets New TV Anime

Yumi Morishita's manga inspires April's Shōnen Ashibe Go! Go! Goma-chan

A new television anime adaptation of Hiromi Morishita's gag comedy manga Shōnen Ashibe is set to premiere on NHK's E-Tele channel on April 5. The new Shōnen Ashibe Go! Go! Goma-chanseries will run during the "Ten-Tele Anime" timeslot within the Tensai TV-kun variety program every Tuesday from 6:45 p.m. to 6:54 p.m..
Morishita serialized the original manga in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine from 1988 to 1994. The story follows the daily life of the baby spotted seal Goma-chan and its owner, schoolboy Ashibe Ashiya.
Nobuhiro Kondo (Sgt. FrogNobunagun) is directing the new anime at the studio Bridge.Toshimitsu Takeuchi (Saint Seiya: Soul of GoldWeiß Survive R) is in charge of series scripts, and Team Goma is producing.
The manga already inspired a 1991 television anime series and a second 1992-1993 television anime series. It also spawned a manga sequel named Comagoma in Weekly Young Jump from 2000 to 2004. Futabasha has since been republishing selected chapters of the manga, and it will print a new edition this spring. Morishita's Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize-winning Osaka Hamletmanga inspired a live-action film.
