Shippū no Hayato manga centers on Japanese Prime Minister during post-war economic boom
This year's eighth issue of Kodansha's Morning magazine (cover shown right) announced on Thursday that Hideki Ohwada (Mobile Suit Gundam-san, Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku) will launch a new manga series titled Shippū no Hayato in the magazine's next issue, which Kodansha will publish on January 28.
The series will focus on the former Prime Minister of Japan Hayato Ikeda, during the post-war economic boom of Japan in the 1960s. The magazine teases the manga with the text, "His course, income-doubling. Dash forward, post-war Japan!"
The magazine also noted that Ohwada's Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku manga has 2.4 million copies in print. Ohwada launched the manga in Takeshobo's Kindai Mahjong Original magazine, and irregularly serialized it before moving the series to Takeshobo's Kindai Mahjong magazine and serializing the series bimonthly. Takeshobo published the manga's 16th compiled book volume last October.
The manga has inspired a three-episode video anime series. The first episode began streaming on YouTube and Nico Nico Douga in December 2009. The last two episodes were released on DVD in February 2010.
Mobile Suit Gundam-san also inspired a 13-episode television anime series in 2014. The Gundam Front Tokyo entertainment venue began screening a new short episode of the anime series on December 5.
