Manga will begin in April issue of Monthly Afternoon magazine
The March issue of Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine revealed on Monday that Makoto Shinkai's She and Her Cat (Kanojo to Kanojo no neko) anime short is inspiring a manga adaptation. The manga illustrated by Tsubasa Yamaguchi will begin serialization in the magazine's April issue next month. Shinkai's PR staff posted a preview image of the manga (left in below image) on Monday.
Earlier this month, the February issue of Kadokawa's Monthly Newtype magazine revealed that the anime is inspiring a new television anime titled Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko: Everything Flows. The series of anime shorts will premiere on the Ultra Super Anime Time programming block on Tokyo MX and BS11 in March.
Shinkai (Voices of a Distant Star, 5 Centimeters Per Second,The Garden of Words) released his original She and Her Catfive-minute short anime independently in 1999. Shinkai voiced the cat while his wife (then girlfriend) Mika Shinohara voiced the girl. Shinkai produced and animated the short alone, and his longtime collaborator Tenmon composed the music. The short won the grand prize at the 12th DoGA CG Animation Contest in 2000. ADV Films' 2003 DVD release of Shinkai's Voices of a Distant Star includes the short.
