Campaign launched in 2010 seeks 300 million yen
The Shizuoka Muslim Association is running a campaign, seeking funds to build a mosque in Shizuoka prefecture. To promote the campaign, the Shizuoka Muslim Association produced an anime video, and began streaming it in June from the Muslims in Japan website.
Sakura Takagi (Kill la Kill, Parasyte -the maxim- key animation) and Kana Kōno (Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Gingitsune key animation) animated the video. Ikue Asazaki performed the song featured in the video titled "Obokuri~Eeumi." Sound Effect Lab provided the sound effects.
The Shizuoka Masjid (mosque) project will include an Islamic school, a multimedia library, a kids play area, a prayer room, shops, a kitchen, and accommodations.
The group launched the project in 2010, and it seeks to raise 300 million yen (about US$2.54 million) to build the mosque. As of press time, the group has raised 20 million yen (about US$169,822). If constructed, it will be the third mosque in Shizuoka prefecture, with the other two located in Hamamatsu and Fuji. Shizuoka prefecture also has one of the largest Muslim graveyards in Japan.
